For some time I have wanted to make a journal talking about my opinion on the main series Pokemon games, I will talk about how I feel about the spin offs in another Journal, but for right now I am just doing the main series games.
Red and Blue (1996)
I never played these when they first came out nor was I born when they came out either, they came out at least two years before I was even born. However I got my hands on a copy of each of the two back around my freshman or sophomore year in High School. I begged my mom to let me get Red Version while Blue Version I got for Christmas. Honestly these games while being only a tad bit difficult they are still fun and rather easy, I do enjoy playing them both not to mention that I also downloaded them for the 3DS as well and transferred my Pokemon from Red Version at least to my Pokemon Moon game.
Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition (1998)
Again never played this when it came out and likely I was just born when it came out too. I do like the idea that they added some elements from the Anime to the game such as having Pikachu as your Starter just like Ash did, Jessie and James try to stop you, and even getting to collect all three of the main Starter Pokemon as well. I also downloaded this one onto my 3DS too, again quite a lot of fun, still challenging but I can really enjoy this one.
Gold and Silver (2000)
While I never played the originals when they came out I did play their remakes when they came out when I was going into Middle School, this was when I first got into Pokemon. I have since then gotten a hold of a copy of both as well, but I have not downloaded them to the 3DS since they came out for the 3DS Virtual Console. I must say that I do prefer their remakes a lot better honestly as the originals felt a little too bland for me honestly and not much story to them and what not, sure people may not agree with me on this cause they are all about the originals being the best but I just prefer their remakes since the remakes of course added much more to the games to make it interesting. I still liked playing the original Gold and Silver dont get me wrong, well I havent even finished nor really started Silver Version but I have beat Gold Version though. These games are still good in my opinion but again I still prefer the remakes.
The third installment to the second generation games. I do have a copy of Crystal Version yes and I have only beaten the main story but not finished the second part of it where I have to beat all eight Kanto Gym Leaders. I must say that this was at least did add some more to the original games in a way but of course it was more focused on Suicune for the most part. I still really enjoyed Crystal but also disappointed that I never got to catch Suicune and failed to do so. Crystal Version is still really good in my opinion.
Ruby and Sapphire (2003)
I never played these when they first came out and at the time I was probably about five when they came out too, but at the time I never knew anything about Pokemon either. Ruby and Sapphire honestly....they felt too.....bland, sure they did improve some things to the games such as better graphics and what not and of course more Pokemon. But the story and characters (mainly Team Aqua and Team Magma) felt a bit too bland and had little to no personality to them or just felt that they all shared a similar personality. When it comes to these two games I do prefer their remakes that came out back in 2014, those two games added much more to the story and made it more interesting and fun for me. Dont get me wrong the originals are still great but to me it just felt that the story in a way could of still been a little bit better.
FireRed and LeafGreen (2004)
The remakes to Red and Blue. These two came out around the time I was likely 6 and again I didnt know much about Pokemon at the time still. I do like these two just as much as I like the originals, more stuff was even added to these games for both the story and of course post game wise. These two were really fun to play through and I mostly played LeafGreen since I have LeafGreen but I dont have FireRed. Again fun games
The third installment to the 3rd Generation set of games. I have played a bit of Emerald in my time honestly, I remember that my cousin let me borrow his Pokemon Emerald game just to mess around on, he had already completed it from what I remember. I even borrowed a friend's Pokemon Emerald game to play through and had fun going through that especially with my Starter being Blaziken. I dont have a copy of Emerald myself but I do have a copy of Sapphire Version. Emerald did add some more to the Hoenn story and made it a bit more interesting especially with the focus of Rayquaza. Fun but still could have been a bit better.
Diamond and Pearl (2007)
Ah yes, Sinnoh, my favorite Region of them all. Diamond was my second Pokemon game I got and I started with Piplup but at the age I was at I felt I regret ever picking Piplup since I had trouble in a early part of the game since Prinplup was too slow. However I can say that Diamond and Pearl were really fun, I may plan on restarting them again at some point and try and keep the games completed and just get whatever Pokemon I can get my hands on and what not.
The third installment to the 4th Generation set of games. I loved Platinum the best out of all the games honestly, Platinum had a lot more to the games, changed a few things from Diamond and Pearl. I just absolutely loved the story and the approach they did with Giratina and the introduction of it's new form at the time the game was released. I never knew about Giratina in Diamond and Pearl and I didnt even know Giratina was in Diamond and Pearl at the time, I only thought Giratina was just a Pokemon that was newly introduced in Platinum but no of course I was wrong. But honestly Platinum was my favorite out of all the Pokemon games and I plan to probably restart it and even keep it complete, not to mention I have two copies of the game since I thought I had lost my original copy of the game.
HeartGold and SoulSilver (2010)
The remakes of Gold and Silver. Ah yes.....HeartGold was my first ever Pokemon game, I remember my very first Starter Pokemon.....Totodile......it was a Female and I named her Toto too (no not after the dog from the Wizard of Oz just a cute name for it). HeartGold and SoulSilver added a lot more to the games than the originals had. I enjoyed both games and played through them as much as I could honestly. These both hold a special place in my heart as being very amazing games honestly.
Black and White (2011)
I honestly didnt really much care for Black and White. I do however really love the story in these games though, the story was really amazing. Team Plasma could have been better instead of being basically the Pokemon World's version of PETA for fuck's sake. However aside from Team PETA as I should call them.....the story was the one thing I could truly focus on, N honestly was a very interesting character, sure a character with a rather....generic or ridiculous name like that sounds like they cant be an interesting character but honestly I just found N to be interesting and learning more and more about his character as he talks about his past and everything about him. The story I really enjoyed about this game, everything else I just found to be a bit meh.
Black 2 and White 2 (2012)
The sequels to Black and White. Now these games, just wow, continuing the story some more from the first ones. The story got even more and more interesting especially with learning a few things about what happened in the span of two years since the incident from the first games. A lot of things change in the games, some stuff in new, just a lot of really awesome things in these games. The story I really grew to like in the 5th Gen games, I could just feel more focused on the story more in this Generation honestly. Great story but still meh about everything else.
X and Y (2013)
Yes, 6th Gen I am now talking about. Personally I liked X and Y only a little bit, I liked some of the new Pokemon they added in and I do indeed like the story quite a lot. The characters however some of them were just either really annoying or there wasnt really much to them or some arent even that memorable. Team Flare was honestly a disappointment for an Organization trying to take over the Region, Lysandre had to be the most ridiculous looking villain leader. X and Y.....sorry but I only liked the story a little and some of the new Pokemon, the rest was disappointing.
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (2014)
The remakes to Ruby and Sapphire. Honestly I really really enjoyed these remakes compared to their originals, a lot more story and a lot more to do in the games especially with the Delta Episode that was based around Rayquaza which basically both games had a add on part of like Emerald Version. These games were great, characters a part of Team Aqua and Team Magma even have more personality to them and even their own kind of personality too to make them unique. Wally even has more to him and even throughout the game you can see him grow as a Trainer from when you help him catch his first Pokemon to when he decides to ask you for a fight in Victory Road, the battle was truly amazing and I wouldnt mind going back and playing the games for that bit again. These games were honestly really good and were really great, great story, great characters, everything.
Sun and Moon (2016)
Sun and Moon honestly I did enjoy quite a bit, some of the Pokemon were honestly really cool. The story was pretty good, and the characters were even likable as well. These games were just amazing and I wouldnt mind playing through them some more honestly. Good story, great characters, even really cool Pokemon.
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (2017)
Ugh......dont get me wrong, I still enjoyed these games (at least Ultra Moon), but......really.......the difficulty spike is what I have the most trouble with when it comes to these games. The difficulty went up quite a bit on both games, they changed things in these games from Sun and Moon, battles are harder. Just a lot of things in these games....I do like some stuff added to these games but I just absolutely hate that they made these games more difficult than they really should be. I like a challenge dont get me wrong....but I dont see a challenge here in these games.....just tons of infuriating moments that almost made me break my 3DS. This is probably why I never really went back to Ultra Sun after I got done beating the first Kahuna.
Anyways, I hope you guys like this, if you dont agree with me on anything then that is fine, if you do then that is great. Just please dont be negative and say that I am wrong about anything, this is just my opinion on these games, nothing is really a fact or anything. The only facts here are certain things involving me having a copy of a game or certain experiences I have had in these games, my opinions arent fact, they are just what I feel about them. Anyways have a good night everyone
